Corey & Ashley - A Perfect June Wedding!

Okay guys, I know this is long overdue but this wedding was so beautiful it would be a sin to not share!

Corey & Ashley had the most perfect spring day for their June wedding at their home in Winterport. The sun was shining, the breeze was perfect, but most importantly the hustle and bustle of the day was full of love and excitement, from the time I arrived to well into the night.

Here are some of my favorites from the day — enjoy!

Mermaid Mood

Early in the year I told myself I would become an expert blogger and a SEO guru and that I was going to get this business all the Google and Insta attention it deserved. How well do you think I’m doing with that? (Hint: My last blog post was in May!)

Well, life happened. A lot of life. Schedules have been so messed up and day jobs have been twisty and turny, there has been constant chaos and a little bit of recklessness and emotions have been at an all time high. Feelings of drowning, feelings of relief, feelings of we don’t know what the hell is happening. I know this sounds like a negative time, but honestly I think I needed all of it! I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I’m capable of, how far my patience can be stretched, and how amazing my family and my clients are. And I’m happy to say, we’ve come out the other side and things are going so well!

It’s time to get back to the blog and sharing with you all the amazingness that’s been happening in front of my lens this summer, so let’s start with girl’s camping weekend!

Earlier this month my girlfriends and I left Bangor behind and took to the wilderness. All of us have been under some pressure and needed a bit of creative release — time to have some real talk (with wine), create our art without expectation, and just let the time flow however it was going to.

I knew that this was the weekend to bring the underwater vision I had to life. I had no idea how this would turn out, but I felt no pressure…this shoot was for me and my soul and nothing else. These images were created to cause or portray feelings, whatever they may be to you. I hope you enjoy them!

A Mother’s Garden
Author Unknown

My Mother kept a garden,
a garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
that gave my life it's start.

She turned me to the sunshine
and encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem...

And when the winds and rain came,
she protected me enough-
But not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.

Her constant good example
always taught me right from wrong-
Markers for my pathway
that will last a lifetime long.

I am my Mother's garden.
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me

Happy New Year! Here's a little recap and a gift for you!

Hi everyone!

I hope you’ve all made it through the holidays in good health and happiness! Christmas was so magical and fun this year, especially with Lincoln showing his baby brother the holiday ropes! I was able to take a breather after the busy portrait season and spend some much needed time with my boys.

Let’s talk about how 2018 went, shall we? What were your highlights? Biggest challenges? Happiest moments? What did you learn and how did you grow?

Last year was a big one for our family. In December of 2017 we announced our second pregnancy which kicked off lots of excitement for the new year. The year started out slow but gradually picked up as the year went on. Things were pretty normal with work, parenthood, and life in general.

We welcomed our second baby boy, Wyatt, in June and that’s when things went wild. Labor was quick and to the point (2.5 hours start to finish), and I recovered very quickly! June was spent adjusting to life with two kids - which honest to God I didn’t think I would survive. I thank my lucky stars for my incredible husband and my bestie Ashley during that difficult transition (and beyond!). Lincoln was just shy of 5 years old, and I couldn’t believe all that I had forgotten about having a newborn — from breastfeeding to diaper changes — it was new all over again, and for that experience I’m so thankful. June also marked our one year wedding anniversary! It was a quiet celebration at home, but it was sweet and perfect for us.

In July I really became familiar with my little town and the community around us. Every day I would hop online and search events going on in and around the area. We did things like Lego building at the library, we went a reptile exhibit, a pop-up circus, Story Land, spent hours and hours at the park, and we went on countless nature walks. Summer in Maine is fleeting and we soaked every bit of it up, knowing I wouldn’t have another opportunity to be home with my boys for an entire summer. At the end of each day we were all filthy, sunkissed, and tired — and it was perfection.

In August I decided to officially kick off my photography business! I met a lot of amazing people, educated myself day in and day out, rebranded the business I had started a year prior, and made some goals to reach by the end of the year. I’m happy to say - while it was the hard in a lot of ways - those goals were met and exceeded, and I couldn’t have done it without you guys!

I returned to work in September and things continued to be very busy ever since. Fast forward a little bit to November when our little Lincoln turned the big 5! I’m not kidding when I tell you he counted down the days for an entire year waiting for his 5th birthday…it was a BIG deal in our house! Thanksgiving came and went in a fury and as a photographer I was thrown into full-blown Christmas shenanigans on November 23rd. When it was time to take down our tree on December 26th, I. was. ready.

I had my very first fresh 48 sessions in December! Oh, my heart! They are hands down my favorite, and I plan to expand my availability for them this year. I have decided to take on more births and fresh 48 in place of weddings in 2019. To me, photography is a way to feed my soul, and when a type of photography breathes life into me during and after the session — I want to hold on to that. The birth of a baby and the fleeting moments immediately after are the moments I want to capture and pass on to my clients.

The end of the year has come and gone and now it’s time to reflect and set more goals. But what I really want to do is say THANK YOU to all of you who have shown support one way or another. Whether it was booking a session with me or loaning me your family as models, it is so appreciated. So for my past and future clients, I present you with my new referral program! A referral is the greatest compliment I can receive. For every five clients that book a session with me and lists you as a referral you will receive a $200 credit toward any session! Credits will be issued when the fifth client’s gallery is completed & delivered.

Facebook Reviews - Any past client of mine who has left a review on my Facebook page - thank you so much! They help more than you know, and I’m offering a $10 print credit toward your next session.

Which brings me to another announcement for 2019 - product packages! I have partnered with three professional labs to be able to provide top notch printed products for all of my clients. I’m slowly moving from digital galleries to printed products. Do you have photos sitting around on your hard drive collecting digital dust? Of course you to (guilty here, too). Life gets in the way, and after sharing your favorites on social media, we forget to print the rest — weeks go by which turn into years, and before you know it you’re due for updated portraits. I want to help my clients produce a one of a kind display out of their beautiful portraits for all to enjoy for years to come. I’ll also be offering heirloom photo books which are perfect to hand down from generation to generation. Stay tuned for an announcement later this month which will list my new pricing structure and product guide.

And last but not least - * model call alert! *- If you or anyone you know have a baby who will be turning one year old this year — please reach out! I will be putting out a model call -or- a drawing for a FREE cake smash session nearing the baby’s birthday!

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you in 2019!

Shaun, Kira, & Layla - Fall Family Portriats

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable little family, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! This family was so fun to work with — Layla’s personality kept us all entertained!

Here are some of my favorites of Shaun, Kira, and little miss Layla (and Valko the dog)!

Baby Wyatt - 5 Month Milestones

Most babies celebrate their major milestone at 6 months, but not Wyatt. Since the day he was born he’s been ahead of the game, from holding his head up to growing out of all his clothes. He’s our last (intentional) baby, and we planned on taking it nice and slow and draaaagging each minute out. Not that we didn’t do the same with Lincoln, but we always knew we’d be able to experience it again with another some day. Something about this being “the last time” makes it more bittersweet than with our first baby and frankly things are moving way fast.

Now, at just four days shy of 5 months, he’s 17 lbs, wearing 9-12 month clothes, babbling, eating solids, and as of yesterday he’s beginning to crawl! He’s the happiest easiest baby I’ve ever met, which is nuts because we thought Lincoln was a breeze!

I’m proud, and sad, and all the other emotions that come with growing babies. We recently transitioned from the bassinet to the crib and it’s been going well, except that my husband, Jake, is having a hard time sleeping since the baby isn’t in arm’s reach anymore. Jake has been on night duty from the start, and I can’t really express how grateful I am for it! He’s the best husband and dad and we’re all so blessed to have him in our lives. I could write you a book about all the things he does for us, and maybe I will. We love him to pieces!

I had Halloween off and spent the day with my boys decorating cookies and mapping out our trick-or-treating route. I looked over as Wyatt was grinning and drooling and chomping on his toes and thought “today’s the day for those milestone photos”. Here are a few of my favorites. He only agreed to one pose — toes in the mouth.

When Life Gives You Lemons...

I’m a sucker for Halloween, so when I had an afternoon unexpectedly free up I knew it was my chance to do something I’ve always wanted! I quickly drove to the nearest store to see what I could find for costumes, and left with some face paint (and a ton of other stuff I didn’t need). Jake carefully carved the perfect pumpkin while I painted Lincoln’s face for our big adventure. We all took to the family junkyard, where Lincoln became the “Junkyard Creature”!

Here are some of my favorites from Spooky Town.

The DeRespinos - Bangor, Maine

In September, I did a fall portrait giveaway and Amanda ended up winning (yay!). I wasn’t sure what to expect because it was my first giveaway — but I’m so happy I did it, because I met an amazing group of ladies!

Amanda and I went back and forth about dates that would work and location ideas, ultimately deciding on Downtown Bangor. I immediately wanted to try something I saw on Pinterest — coffeeshop photography, which if you know me then you know about my coffeeshop OBSESSION. Turns out, that’s exactly what Amanda and her girls had in mind! We had so much fun walking downtown together.

We started off with coffee at Bagel Central, and crossed the street to check out the amazing treasures at the Rock and Art Shop.

We wandered up Main towards the Bangor mural, stopping along the way and planning on circling back to the Penobscot Theatre Company to get photos under the lights. When we got to the theatre, the lights were off and we were sad, BUT, after rattling their door a little, a very nice man poked his head out and said he’s be thrilled to turn the lights on for us (thank you, really nice man!).

On our way back toward the cafe, the girls and I chatted a bit and I feel so lucky to have gotten to know them a little bit! Amanda is an amazing mom with an army of amazing kids. Nina is an aspiring photographer, Kathryn is a signer and a social media whiz, little Emily loves the library and brought a favorite book with her — The Bobbsey Twins.

I’m blessed to have met such a sweet and fun family and can’t wait to photograph them again!

Kevin & Patty - Gile's Apple Orchard - Alfred, Maine

Fall in Maine is hands down one of the most beautiful places that you could be. Most of the foliage in the state has peaked by by now, but the foliage in the southern part of the state is still prime. I was so happy to capture the last of the fall colors with Patty & Kevin. The wind was howling and it was COLD, but Gile’s Family Farm was the perfect spot. Special thank you to the farm for allowing us in after the orchard had closed for the season!
